
Trujillo is the capital of the region of La Libertad, is the third largest city in Peru. It is located on the north coast, the Moche River valley, where the Moche and Chimu civilizations developed between 200 BC and AD 700. Both cultures were noted for their work in ceramics and gold and silver.
Eight kilometers (5 miles) south of the city of Trujillo, are the ceremonial centers or huacas known as the Temples of the Sun and Moon of the Moche civilization.
The Sun Temple is a graduate of pyramid 43 meters high (141 feet), while the Temple of the Moon, only 500 meters, is composed of superimposed temples built at different times during the Moche civilization.
Some of the walls have murals dramatic polychrome figures.
Year-round pleasant climate has earned the title "Capital of Eternal Spring". The main square is surrounded by beautiful colonial churches and houses.
It has beautiful beaches like the Delicias, Salaverry, Huanchaco and Chicama, venues for international surfing competitions and where local fishermen still use "horses of reeds, canoes made in the same way for thousands of years.
The typical dance of the coast is the seafood and Trujillo is the most important where competitions are held, earning the name of the capital of the marinera Peruana.
Trujillo is also a major breeding center and the competence of Peruvian horses.
