'S.O.S. Peruanitos'

It is expected that all of our volunteers are dedicated and work hard at their posts. After working hours, you will have free time to use as you like. You can also enjoy all day Saturday and Sunday to rest whole, tourist attractions or go to the beach.

We receive volunteers through approved volunteer agencies. You will pay nothing to SOS Peru to volunteer with us..

Accommodation
This is normally arranged for by the agency, and only in cases where the agency asks SOS Peru to provide accommodation do we get involved in this.

Where we do provide accommodation it includes:

  • furnished room (shared or individual).
  • kitchen.
  • access wireless high speed Internet throughout the house.
  • weekly cleaning.
  • all other accounts included.
  • Three meals a day Monday through Friday.
 

 


  1. First meeting before going to the schools in our local,
  2. 8:30 then we all headed for school children.
  3. In schools, the volunteer makes a very important role towards children should he or she will interact children, teachers and parents.
  4. 12 a.m. all the volunteers and teachers are returning to local SOS Peru meeting.
  5. There is a report on the performance of the day in schools.
  6. For the rest of the day the volunteer can make your own personal, our internet time, leave, go to the beach, etc.
  7. Saturday and Sunday, volunteers can travel if they wish.

Trujillo is the capital of the region of La Libertad, is the third largest city in Peru. It is located on the north coast, the Moche River valley, where the Moche and Chimu civilizations developed between 200 BC and AD 700. Both cultures were noted for their work in ceramics and gold and silver.

Eight kilometers (5 miles) south of the city of Trujillo, are the ceremonial centers or huacas known as the Temples of the Sun and Moon of the Moche civilization. The Sun Temple is a graduate of pyramid 43 meters high (141 feet), while the Temple of the Moon, only 500 meters, is composed of superimposed temples built at different times during the Moche civilization. Some of the walls have murals dramatic polychrome figures.
 
Year-round pleasant climate has earned the title "Capital of Eternal Spring". The main square is surrounded by beautiful colonial churches and houses. It has beautiful beaches like the Delicias, Salaverry, Huanchaco and Chicama, venues for international surfing competitions and where local fishermen still use "horses of reeds, canoes made in the same way for thousands of years.

The typical dance of the coast is the seafood and Trujillo is the most important where competitions are held, earning the name of the capital of the marinera Peruana. Trujillo is also a major breeding center and the competence of Peruvian horses.

How come?

By plane:
There are daily flights from Lima to Trujillo (50 minutes).

Ground:
Buses to Trujillo on the Pan American highway due north of Lima (561 miles km/348 - 8 hours), from Lima (210 km / 130 miles - 3 hours), Piura (410 km/255 miles - 6 hours), and 759 from Lima km/472 miles.

Accommodation:
There are five star hotels and hostels in Trujillo. Up to 3 star hotels and hostels in Huanchaco.
Activities:
Archeology, bird watching, fishing and surfing (Huanchaco and Chicama).

Tourist Services:
Trujillo restaurants offer local and international dishes. Transportation and travel agents.

Minimum length of stay; Three days to see the historical and archaeological sites.

Recommendations:
Light clothing (shirts, pants), shoes and hats.

Attractions:
Historic Center of Trujillo: houses and churches. Other archaeological sites: The Huaca El Dragon, El Brujo, etc Huanchaco Beach Cities, Pacasmayo and Puerto Malabrigo.

Climate:
Sun year round, temperate and warm, especially during the hot summer months (December-March).

Festivals:
The National Marinera Competition between (January / February):

  • The opportunity to take the splendor of the sailor, a typical dance from the coast.
  • Huanchaco Carnival (February), Carnival dates back to late 19th century, inspired by the Venice Carnival.
  • Surfing Championship (March): Celebrated Chicama, the championship attracts surfers from around the world.
International Spring Festival (September / October).
Parades, National Competition (September 29): Trujillo organized by the owners and horse breeders association during the Spring Festival.

Gastronomy:

  • Kid & Dry Beans: goat stew with cilantro and maize beer, served with beans.
  • Shambar: thick wheat soup with pork and beans.
  • Teologà Soup: chicken broth with chunks of bread.
  • Frijoles a la Trujillana: black beans with sesame seeds and hot pepper (spicy).
  • Pava Pepian: turkey stew with rice and corn.

There are reasons dining, joined the festivities and pleasant climate that is considered the best of Peru.
